Give Your Plants A Healthy Home
Fernwood's Soft Tree Fern Substrate is an excellent choice of media for growing enthusiasts, and offers many benefits over more common bark-mix potting media, especially when growing orchids, ferns, and epiphytes.
Fernwood Soft Tree Fern Substrate is made from fully sustainably sourced fibres from Dicksonia fibrosa (whekī-ponga or golden tree fern), which is grown and harvested right here in NZ on reforested farmland in Taranaki.
Tree fern fibre offers fantastic aeration to the root zone and excellent water retention, leaving you watering less frequently. It's also easy to tell when your plant needs a drink as the soil turns from a rich, dark brown when moist, to a light brown once it's dried out a bit. The robust nature of tree fern fibres also means you'll be repotting less frequently.
Handy Tips:
Use for reptile terrariums - Replicate natural habitats of jungle or forest floors to increase humidity, reduce odour, encourage natural behaviors such as burrowing,
Reduce nutrients - Tree fern fibre retains minerals very effectively, so you might need to use less fertiliser next time you feed your plants depending on what potting mix you used previously.
